Element Design Studio is a full-service interior architecture and design studio based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, working with clients nationwide to create timeless interiors with a modern perspective.
Above all, we believe a home should feel deeply personal to the people who live there. Our goal is to create spaces that tell a story, where a guest can walk through the door and learn a little something about the people who call it home, what they love, how they live, and the things they’ve collected along the way.
We are especially drawn to historic homes that we have the opportunity to honor and thoughtfully reimagine, as well as new builds that we can layer with timeless details and a sense of history from the very beginning.
Our approach is collaborative and comprehensive. We work closely with our clients, architects, builders, and craftspeople from the earliest floor plans and architectural details through cabinetry, finishes, furnishings, and the final layers that make a house feel like home.
At the heart of it all, we design spaces where our clients can truly live in their element.

Ella Baker is the founder and principal designer of Element Design Studio.
Her love for this work started long before EDS. Growing up in a family rooted in real estate and construction, Ella developed an early appreciation for thoughtful design, craftsmanship, and the process of creating a home. She went on to study interior design and build a strong background in millwork and architectural design before founding her own studio.
She still loves the puzzle of a great floor plan, the details of a beautifully designed kitchen, and the chase of sourcing the perfect piece. That mix of technical problem-solving and creativity continues to shape the way she approaches every project, creating homes that feel considered, personal, and distinctly their own.
Outside of the studio, Ella can usually be found sailing, skiing or spending time outdoors with family and friends. She and her husband, Connor, live in a historic home in Grand Rapids’ Heritage Hill neighborhood, where the character and history surrounding them continue to fuel her love for thoughtful design.
